Situation
With a huge Duty of Care across a massive portfolio, it is not surprising that height safety is a top priority to a corporate entity such as Scentre Group.
As a whole, shopping centres have an extremely high requirement for height safety due to the large amount of roof mounted plant which requires regular servicing. Keeping employees, contractors and sub-contractors safe when working at height is essential.
As Scentre Group manages all aspects of their portfolios, from concept, design, construction, leasing and asset management it was important for them to partner up with a company that could handle every stage of their properties with them.
Solution - User friendly, compliant Access and Fall Arrest Systems
SAYFA carried out extensive consultation with Scentre Group, to address all of their requirements for any new construction, as well as recertification and auditing on existing buildings.
On-site inspections were conducted on existing buildings to establish the quality of the systems currently installed, their compliance to Australian Standards and their suitability for the task at hand.
Selection of systems was based on tasks to be performed, frequency of use and operator ability. User friendliness, being a major factor for Scentre Group, was also a key consideration for all of the access and fall protection systems on their buildings.
As with all PCBUs (Persons in Control of a Business or Undertaking) ensuring that personnel, whether it be employees or sub contractors, correctly operate the systems in place is imperative.
With Workplace Manslaughter Laws now in effect in most states of Australia, and with increasing prosecutions taking place, it is clear that there are real consequences for not ensure that the buildings you manage have safe work practices.
Workers must be able to easily locate instructional documentation, maintenance procedures and compliance requirements. SAYFA's comprehensive operation manuals, which are supplied with our systems, offer all of the necessary information and are located within easy reach of the systems.
Scentre Group now have peace of mind that they are maintaining the highest possible Duty of Care for all their personnel.
