2.1.1 – For heights less than 6.0m

Fixed angled permanent ladder:

  • 3.0m access walkway and double guardrail leading from ladder on to roof.
  • Minimum 1.0m walkway/levelled landing at base
  • Ladder cage with lockable access gate needs to be installed if vertical height is over 3.5m.
  • Roof access signage to be placed at base of
  • Protection required against dissimilar metals (galvanic) corrosion.

 

 

2.1.2 – For heights between 6.0m – 12.0m

Fixed angled caged 2 stage permanent ladder including lockable cage access gate:

  • 3.0m access walkway and double guardrail leading from ladder on to roof.
  • Ladder cage with lockable access gate
  • Minimum 1.0m walkway/levelled landing at base.
  • Midway platform is to be provided. Note: 1.0m cage side extension to be provided on ladder from platform to roof if ladder is less that 900mm from the guardrail.
  • Roof access signage to be placed at base of ladder
  • Protection required against dissimilar metals (galvanic) corrosion.

 

2.1.3 – For heights between 12.0m – 18.0m

Fixed angled caged 3 stage permanent ladder including lockable cage access gate:

  • 3.0m access walkway and double guardrail leading from ladder on to roof.
  • Ladder cage with lockable access gate
  • Minimum 1.0m walkway/levelled landing at base.
  • Midway platform is to be provided. Note: 1.0m cage side extension to be provided on ladder from platform to roof if ladder is less that 900mm from the guardrail.
  • Roof access signage to be placed at base of ladder
  • Protection required against dissimilar metals (galvanic) corrosion.

 

2.1.4 – For roof access where ceiling is up to 4.0m high

Where access is achieved by means of an internal fold down ladder and sliding access hatch:

  • Ideally used in a multilevel office
  • Fold down ladder to be positioned in safe location away
    from office
  • Access hatch must incorporate a guardrail
  • Sliding hatch to be minimum 800mm wide x 1.0m long.
  • Ceiling ladders to be provided between suspended ceiling and access Preferred angle 75 degrees.

 

2.1.5 – Access to awnings/canopy roofs and mezzanines up to 4.5m high and over 3.0m wide
  • Ladder support
  • Minimum 1.0m walkway/levelled landing at base.
  • 3.0m access walkway and double guardrail leading from ladder on to roof.
  • Roof access signage to be placed at base of ladder.
  • Protection required against dissimilar metals (galvanic) corrosion.
  • Ladder landing to be in an area away from traffic/pedestrian thoroughfare areas.
  • Diversion anchors required in the back corners of the canopy or awning.

Note: 

  • Where access is required more than 4 times per year  a fixed ladder system must be provided.
  • Wherever possible, access to awnings and canopies must be from the main roof area rather than the ground.
  • No access to canopies/awnings under 3.0m wide.

 

2.1.6 – Access to awnings/canopy roofs and mezzanines over 4.5m high and over 3.0m wide
  • A fixed angled ladder must be installed from the main roof down to the lower roof/awning or canopy, if vertical height is greater than 3.5m a cage must be installed.
  • Minimum 1.0m walkway/levelled landing at base.
  • 3.0m access walkway and double guardrail at top of ladder.
  • Protection required against dissimilar metals (galvanic) corrosion.
  • Diversion anchors required in the back corners of the canopy or awning

 

2.1.6 – Access to awnings/canopy roofs and mezzanines up to 4.5m high and over 3.0m wide
  • Ladder support
  • Minimum 1.0m walkway/levelled landing at
